TEACH DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP: CORE GOALS

 

 

Digital Citizenship is the quality of an individual's character and the choices they make online.

 

Digital Citizenship programming identifies an individual's basic rights (benefits) and responsibilities (boundaries) in a digital environment. Further, Digital Citizenship programming strives to deepen the students' understanding and acceptance of the appropriate and responsible use of technology.

Although Ribble's nine elements are presented in the subsequent pages as one model, another framework to consider is CHURCHES'S RESPECT AND PROTECT MODEL (2011).  It is outlined as:

RESPECT & PROTECT YOURSELF: Security, Rights & Responsibilities, Health & Wellness

RESPECT & PROTECT OTHERS: Communications, Etiquette, Access

RESPECT & PROTECT INTELLECTUAL AND OTHER PROPERTY: Law, Literacy, Commerce

 

NO MATTER THE MODEL ADOPTED, THESE NINE ELEMENTS ARE INTENDED TO SUPPORT EDUCATORS IN THINKING THROUGH THEIR DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP PROGRAMMING.
